How does Digital Offset work?

Like conventional offset printing, Digital Offset Colour printing transfers a liquid image from the imaging surface to a printing blanket, and from the printing blanket to paper. However, unlike conventional offset printing, Digital Offset Colour printing creates a new ink image with each impression and, due to the unique qualities of Indigo's proprietary ElectronInk, it leaves no residual ink on the blanket.

ElectroInk is one of Indigo's key technologies. It is a liquid ink that can be electrostatically charged to produce high resolution and high quality colour images. Unlike xerographic toners, ElectroInk provides a density and richness of colour directly comparable to offset print. To further extend the colour range achievable with Digital Offset Colour, Indigo has developed the IndiChrome wide gamut printing system.

HP IndiChrome off-press enables printers to specify special spot colours to be loaded on the press. These colours are manufactured and supplied by HP Indigo’s Special Ink Mixing Services, or can be
prepared on-site with the HP IndiChrome Ink Mixing System, to enable printing of corporate colours, simulating 97% of the PANTONE® Colours range.

Indigo presses print on the widest range of substrates from coated and uncoated paper to transparencies and label stock. The number of Indigo-optimized substrates from major manufacturers continues to grow through our partnerships with many industry leaders
